Our History

[1948] Coronado Warehouse and Supply was formed.

We started as Coronado Warehouse and Supply in Coronado, California, setting the foundation for what would become Corodata Records Management, Inc.

[1955] New Beginnings, the named changed to Corovan Moving and Storage

Initially, we moved from Coronado to Lemon Grove, where we provided moving and warehousing services to San Diego households and to Military Families.

[1974] New Leadership

Richard T. (Dick) Schmitz took the helm, steering the company toward growth and expanding its client base to include corporate clients alongside traditional household moving services. Later, Dick’s sons acquired the business and shifted its focus to business services. As a result, the company transitioned exclusively to B2B corporate services, eventually discontinuing household moving services.

[1996] Independence and Growth

The company has been in the records management industry for many years. As we experienced tremendous growth, driven by our commitment to security and customer satisfaction, we established ourselves as a separate entity from Corovan Moving and Storage, further solidifying our focus on specializing in records management.

[2002] Corodata Records Management

The company rebranded as Corodata Records Management, further establishing itself as a distinct business to enhance focus and drive growth. Additional services, such as media storage and data protection, were developed.

[2010] Service Expansion into Document Shredding and more.

We introduced our first shred truck, expanding our capabilities to include secure document shredding. Since then, we have grown to operate one of the largest fleets of mobile shredding trucks in the industry. To better serve our clients’ data-focused needs, our comprehensive range of core services now includes records storage, file indexing, pickup and delivery, digital media storage and protection, imaging, and secure document destruction.

[2020] ITAD – Asset destruction And new client portals for all services

In response to our clients’ evolving needs, we began shredding hard drives and launched the Corodata Client Portal, enabling clients to seamlessly manage their records and services online.

[Today] Leading the Industry

Today, Corodata is proud to be the largest independent records management firm in California and one of the five largest in the nation. As a recognized industry leader, we hold numerous prestigious certifications, including SSAE 18, SOC 1 and SOC 2, NAID AAA, and PRISM Privacy+.
